Scott DeSanders
Pastor of Student Ministries
Personal History
Born and raised skinning rattlesnakes and riding bucking broncos in Texas, Scott lived 18 years in Dallas before finishing high school and moving across the country for college. He came to faith during these years as a result of many years attending Christian summer camps and participating in a youth ministry not altogether unlike TBC's.
He spent four years in college at Yale University studying molecular biology, wearing lab goggles, and dissecting animals with the intentions of moving to medical school. Fortunately, God's work on his heart led him in a different direction, and he spent some time living in Branson, MO performing with Shoji Tabuchi and Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. Somewhere along the line, he discovered a passion for youth ministry and committed his life to it.
He moved back to Dallas for four years of preparation and training at Dallas Theological Seminary before hearing about Topeka Bible Church and falling in love with the community here. He moved to Topeka in May 2008 and joined the staff of TBC and has loved working with the students ever since.
Education
Ministry Responsibilities
Scott spends his time overseeing and leading discipleship of students 7th to 12th grades. He plans and leads bible studies, Sunday morning youth services, and the occasional all night lock-in. He has developed a true passion for pizza and "pop," though he still insists it's all called "Coke."
Family
Scott's extended family is all back in Texas, developing a newfound love for Kansas folk. He has no wives and no children at the current time.
Interesting Stuff
The congregation of TBC learned early on that Scott was a child actor, is red-green color blind, and has two fairly sterile pet geckos and a fluffy white kitten that he loves very much. He passes his free time in Topeka runway modeling for fashion shows, boycotting the local mall, and signing autographs as a Ty Pennington look-alike.
